About the work
A short single-juan dhāraṇī-sūtra translated at the Sòng 譯經院 by 法賢 Fǎxián. The transcription “俱枳羅” jùzhǐluó renders Sanskrit kokila — the Indian cuckoo (also a personal/divine name) and the etymon of the spell’s mantra-syllables.
Abstract
The Buddha is at Śrāvastī, Jeta Grove, surrounded by bhikṣus, devas, asuras, and gandharvas. The Buddha addresses Ānanda: pay close attention, I have a dhāraṇī. The text gives the spell-formula and the standard summary of its merits — protection from demonic affliction, fulfilment of wishes, and removal of the obstructions of bad karma. The text concludes with Ānanda’s assent. Recorded in the Dà-zhōng-xiángfú fǎbǎo lù; Nanjio N0884. CANWWW gives no Sanskrit reconstruction beyond the transcription.
