Fó shuō Luòchā tuóluóní jīng 佛說洛叉陀羅尼經

Sūtra of the Lakṣa-dhāraṇī

by 法賢 (譯)

About the work

A short single-juan dhāraṇī-sūtra translated at the Sòng 譯經院 by 法賢 Fǎxián. The transcription “洛叉” luòchā renders Sanskrit lakṣa — “a hundred-thousand” — in the metaphysical sense of “innumerable”, i.e. the dhāraṇī of inexhaustible numerical merit. CANWWW gives the alternate title Luòyì tuóluóní jīng 洛義陀羅尼經.

Abstract

The Buddha addresses Ānanda: pay close attention; I shall now proclaim for you the Lakṣa-dhāraṇī, hard to encounter as Buddhas appearing in the world. If a being obtains and upholds it, the merit is as if he had honoured a lakṣa of Buddhas — without difference. It can produce vast aggregates of merit and extinguish a being’s measureless heavy karma. The Buddha then pronounces the spell. Recorded in the Dà-zhōng-xiángfú fǎbǎo lù; Nanjio N0894.
