Abridged Summary Verses of the Mūlasarvāstivāda Vinaya Kṣudraka-vastu by 義淨 (Yìjìng, 譯)
About the work
A one-fascicle Chinese translation of the abridged summary verses for the Mūlasarvāstivāda Kṣudraka-vastu (KR6k0032) — the uddāna-style mnemonic verses that index the topics of the forty-fascicle parent Vastu. 略 lüè “abridged” indicates a shorter selection, by contrast with the fuller in-text uddānas. Translated by Yìjìng (義淨) in the early 8th century.
Prefaces
Translator’s colophon: 大唐三藏義淨奉制譯.
Abstract
The Mūlasarvāstivāda Kṣudraka-vastu is so vast (forty fascicles) that its uddāna-summaries occupy a separate work in the Chinese canon. This abridged verse-compilation is the principal navigational aid for the parent text and has been used by modern philological scholarship (Yao Fumi 2013) to reconstruct the original Sanskrit Kṣudraka-vastu’s topical organisation.
