Abstract
The two-recension transmission of the Fànjiè zuìbào sūtra reflects the textual instability characteristic of short-form Vinaya-related sūtras in the early Chinese Buddhist tradition. The variant differs from KR6k0055 in details of phrasing and in the order of the karmic consequences enumerated. Comparative philological work (Nattier 2008) treats both recensions as valuable witnesses to the earliest Chinese Vinaya-derived translations.
