Abstract
The text is a practical liturgical handbook for the regular Mahāyāna bodhisattva-precept observance. The bi-monthly recitation of the Fànwǎng bodhisattva-precepts paralleled the prātimokṣa recitation of the formal Vinaya, providing a public-communal renewal of the bodhisattva-vow. Hóngzàn’s annotated version supplied the practical handbook used in Bǎohuá-shān and other late-imperial Chinese ordination centres.
