The Sūtra of Right Respect by 佛陀扇多 (Buddhaśānta, 譯)

About the work

A one-fascicle Mahāyāna sūtra on the right-respect etiquette of Buddhist practice, translated by Buddhaśānta 佛陀扇多 (佛陀扇多) at Yè 鄴 of the Northern Wèi 元魏 in 525–539 CE. An alternate translation to KR6k0117 of essentially the same Sanskrit sūtra.

Prefaces

Translator’s colophon: 元魏天竺三藏佛陀扇多譯.

Abstract

The text presents the same content as Jñānagupta’s KR6k0117 in an earlier Northern-Wèi recension. The double translation in two distinct Chinese renderings of the same Indian source-text indicates the importance of the Three-Jewels-etiquette tradition in early-medieval Chinese Buddhism.
