Abstract

The text presents comparative Vinaya material drawn from three of the four canonical Chinese Vinayas, providing the late-Tang Dunhuang reader with a synoptic resource for cross-school Vinaya comparison. Such cross-school Vinaya scholarship was characteristic of Dàoxuān’s Nánshān approach and is attested in this Dunhuang fragment as a wider feature of late-Tang Vinaya studies.
