About the work
A four-fascicle compilation by 窺基 of supplementary notes on KR6n0016 Chéng wéishí lùn — material that, like that in the companion KR6n0033 liàojiǎn, did not enter the principal commentary KR6n0026 shùjì but was preserved in circulation. The “bié chāo” 別抄 (“separate excerpts”) title indicates that the text is in part an aggregation of marginal notes and lecture-records assembled by Kuījī (or by his disciples) outside the formal commentarial framework.

Abstract
The biéchāo is preserved only in the Xuzangjing (X48n0808). Like its companion KR6n0033, it preserves Kuījī’s working notes on doctrinal cruces of the Chéng wéishí lùn — particularly on questions of the xiànxíng / bīja relation, the manas-ālayavijñāna relation, and the bodhisattva-bhūmi correlations — that fell outside the topical organisation of the principal commentaries.
Modern Yogācāra scholarship has paid increasing attention to the biéchāo and liàojiǎn together as evidence for Kuījī’s doctrinal development across his teaching career: positions taken in these working notes sometimes anticipate or refine those in the shùjì, suggesting (Yoshimura, 2013) that Kuījī continued revising his understanding of the Chéng wéishí lùn throughout the 660s and 670s. The dating window adopted (659–682) covers Kuījī’s full teaching career.
