About the work
A short single-fascicle sub-commentary by 如理 on 智周’s KR6n0032 Chéng wéishí lùn yǎnmì (T43n1833). Preserved in the Xuzangjing (X50n0816). Together with the longer KR6n0038 Chéng wéishí lùn shū yìyǎn on Kuījī’s shùjì, the yǎnmì shì belongs to the late-Tang third-generation Cí’ēn commentarial tradition.

Abstract
The work glosses the more difficult passages of Zhìzhōu’s yǎnmì, focusing on the technical-philosophical questions of the manas-ālayavijñāna relation, the xiànxíng / bīja doctrine, and the relations among the three natures. As with KR6n0038, the dating window adopted (750–850) reflects the conventional placement of 如理 in the late-Tang Cí’ēn lineage between the second-generation patriarchs and the Huìchāng-era collapse.
