Xiǎnyáng shèngjiào lùn sòng 顯揚聖教論頌

Verses of the Treatise Manifesting the Holy Teaching by 無著菩薩 (Wúzhuó púsà = Asaṅga, 造) and 玄奘 (Xuánzàng, 譯)

About the work

A single-fascicle separate verse-text containing the kārikā of KR6n0077 Xiǎnyáng shèngjiào lùn (T31n1602) extracted as a stand-alone aide-memoire. Translated by 玄奘 in 645–646, in the same campaign as the prose treatise. One fascicle.

Structural Division

CANWWW (T31N1603) does not preserve internal structure. The single fascicle contains the kārikā of all eleven pǐn of the Xiǎnyáng in a single continuous run.

Abstract

The separate-verse-text format reflects standard Indian curricular practice of memorising the verse-base of a śāstra independently of its prose exposition. Although the verses reproduce material already present in KR6n0077, they were extracted and translated separately by Xuánzàng’s team for the convenience of advanced students.

The dating bracket follows the parallel translation of T1602 (645–646). The text is brief and is not cited extensively in the commentarial tradition — the prose work KR6n0077 supplies the doctrinal substance and is the principal reference text.
