About the work
A one-juan late-Míng Chán compendium supplementing the earlier Zhèngzōng xīnyìn 正宗心印 tradition — a genealogical-cum-doctrinal record of orthodox-line (zhèngzōng) Chán mind-seal transmission. Title literally “Linked Fragrance of the Continuation of the Zhèngzōng xīnyìn”; liánfāng is a conventional term for a continuation-by-successor.
Abstract
Shàncàn supplies a continuation of the Zhèngzōng xīnyìn transmission record, adding figures of the generations after the earlier compilation. Brief in scale but participating in the general late-Míng interest in gathering Chán transmission materials into compact, practitioner-usable form. Preserved in the Xuzangjing.
