Six-juan yǔlù of Huìgōng Kāixiòng 開詗 慧弓開詗 (1634 – 1676/77), Cáo-dòng-school dharma-heir of Zàishēn Hóngzàn 弘贊 在犙弘贊 (1611–1685) at Dǐnghúshān Qìngyúnsì 鼎湖山慶雲寺 in Zhàoqìng (Guǎngdōng). Recorded by fǎsì Chuányī 傳一 děng lù. Title-form references the Nánhǎi Bǎoxiànglín 南海寶象林 abbacy in Guǎngdōng. Printed as Jiāxīng Canon J35 B336.
Abstract
Authorship. Per the 開詗 note: native of Shùndé 順德 (Guǎngdōng), lay surname Zhāng 張, lay-name Zhāng Míngdá 張明達. Tonsured at 17 (= 1650) under Zàishēn Hóngzàn at Dǐnghúshān. Subsequent lifelong association with the Dǐnghú / Yúnmén Cáodòng line in southern Guǎngdōng.
Dating. notBefore = c. 1660 (post-transmission preaching). notAfter = 1676/77 (death age 43). Six-juan extent reflects his relatively brief but intensive 1660s–1670s ministry.
Lineage. Cáo-dòng-school. Wúyì Yuánlái 無異元來 (1575–1630) → Yīngbēn Hóngjué 應本宏覺 → Zàishēn Hóngzàn (1611–1685) → Huìgōng Kāixiòng — the Bóshān → Dǐnghú line.
Other works. KR6q0132 《溈山警策句釋記》 collaborative commentary with his teacher Hóngzàn. Also editorial-compiler of Xuěguān chánshī yǔlù (a different volume, 13 juan).
Guǎng-dōng-region significance. Together with KR6q0132, this volume establishes Huìgōng as one of the most prolific Guǎng-dōng-region Cáodòng chánshī of his generation, anchoring the Dǐnghú / Yúnmén sub-line’s southern preaching presence.
