Other points of interest

The master’s explicit rejection of cremation in his final instructions is unusual within Chinese Buddhist mortuary practice — paralleling the similar but more elaborate sānjìn of Shānduó Zhēnzài 真在 (cf. KR6q0534 juan 1). Like Zhēnzài’s instructions to scatter his bones into rivers, Dàyuè’s shēngzàng directive challenges the standard Chán cremation cycle observed elsewhere in J39 (e.g. KR6q0557’s detailed mortuary cycle for Sānshān Dēnglái).
