Abstract
Recension IV preserves an expanded form, integrating prefatory invocation of Dìzàng-bóusà 地藏菩薩 (Kṣitigarbha) with the zhāi-rì schedule. The prominence given to Dìzàng (rather than the more common pan-buddha mode of Recensions I–II) suggests that Recension IV belongs to the later strata of the textual tradition, when the cult of Dìzàng — institutionally consolidating in the late Táng — had attached itself to the zhāi-rì practice. The fully-developed title Dìzàng-bóusà shí-zhāi-rì (which gave the cluster its received name) is itself a Recension IV form.
