Chéngshí 乘旹 (also written 乘時 — both forms appear in the canonical record), original name Liǎofán 了凡, hào Cháizǐ 柴紫. Late-Ming Línjì 臨濟 Chán monk. Native of Dāngyáng 當陽 (in Húběi); lay surname Jìn 靳.
Took the tonsure in youth at the Bào-ēn-sì 報恩寺 under Guǎng-tōng 廣通; studied the sūtras and śāstras at length. Later met Wú-jì Zhèng-huì 無跡正誨 (1547–1627) at the Dù-mén-sì 度門寺, received Wú-jì’s Dharma transmission, and changed his name to Chéng-shí 乘旹. Subsequently became abbot of the Yù-quán Dù-mén-sì 玉泉度門寺.
His extant work is the Lèngyán-jīng jiǎng-lù 楞嚴經講錄 (KR6j0707, X15 no. 299), a transcription of his lectures on the Śūraṃgama-sūtra delivered at Yú-shān 虞山. The self-preface (zì-xù 自敘) is dated to the day of the Buddha’s Enlightenment, Tiān-qǐ 2, rén-xū = 1622 CE (天啟壬戌（1622）佛成道日撰〈楞嚴講錄自敘〉).
