Spring-and-Autumn-period qín-player; together with 鍾子期 Zhōng Zǐqī forms the proverbial pair of zhīyīn 知音 (“knowing the sound”) — the perfect mutual interpretive understanding between musician and listener. The metaphor furnishes the title of 如愚 Rúyú’s late-Míng Lotus Sūtra commentary Fǎhuá jīng zhīyīn 法華經知音 (KR6d0074).
