Fù Rényǔ 傅仁宇 (zì Yǔnkē 允科), late-Míng ophthalmologist of Mòlíng 秣陵 / Jīnlíng 金陵 (modern Nánjīng 南京), active in the Wànlì 萬曆 to Chóngzhēn 崇禎 reigns (roughly 1573 to 1644). According to the 凡例 to his Shěnshì yáohán 審視瑤函 (KR3em010), drafted by his son 傅國棟 Fù Guódòng, Fù Rényǔ came from a hereditary medical family (shìyī 世醫) specializing in ophthalmology and “transmitted the hán [precious casket] from his ancestors over many generations.” He practised in Nánjīng for “more than thirty years” and built one of the most prominent Jiāngnán ophthalmological reputations of the late Míng, famous in particular for the jīnzhēn bōzhàng 金針撥障 couching operation for cataract — a technique with Indian roots transmitted through the Mìchuán yǎnkē Lóngmù lùn 秘傳眼科龍木論 (KR3em003) tradition. His major work, Shěnshì yáohán (alternative title Yǎnkē dàquán 眼科大全), was completed in 1644 and printed at the Jìshìtáng 濟世堂 of Nánjīng. Fù Rényǔ is not in CBDB; precise birth and death years are not recoverable from the prefatorial evidence. He is cited by name as an authority on post-smallpox eye complications in Mǎ Huàlóng’s KR3em008 Yǎnkē chǎnwēi (1701/1704).
