Líng Dízhī 凌迪知 (1529–1600), zì Zhìzhé 稚哲, native of Wúxìng 吳興 (mod. Húzhōu in Zhèjiāng). Míng jìnshì of Jiājìng 35 (1556). He held a series of provincial offices, retiring to produce a major scholarly output. He was one of the leading mid-Míng bibliophile-compilers. His chief surviving works are: the Zuǒguó yúcí 左國腴詞 (KR4d series, a bǐjì / poetics compilation, separately catalogued); the Wànxìng tǒngpǔ 萬姓統譜 (KR3k0044) in 140 juan — the most comprehensive Míng-period surname-and-prosopography compendium; the appended Shìzú bókǎo 氏族博攷 (14 juan); and XiānHàn shūfǎ zuǎnyào 先漢書法纂要. He was the father of the publisher Líng Méngchū 凌濛初 (1580–1644), founder of the famous Língshì commercial publishing house of late-Míng Wúxìng — the colour-printing tradition that produced many of the most beautifully printed Míng editions of canonical texts.
