Liú Yīzhǐ 劉一止 (1079–1160), Xíngjiǎn 行簡, native of Húzhōu Guīān 湖州歸安. Jìnshì of Xuānhé 3 (1121). Under Shàoxīng he was tested and appointed Bìshūshěng xiàoshūláng 秘書省校書郎; rose through Jǐshìzhōng 給事中 (Supervising Secretary). For opposing Qín Guì 秦檜 in the Suǒtà (drafting office) he was dismissed after just over a hundred days; spent more than a decade in retirement. After Qín’s death (1155) he was recalled but firmly declined; died at age 82.

Hán Yuánjí 韓元吉 wrote his xíngzhuàng, judging his prose “tuī běn jīngshù; chūrù Hán Liǔ; bù xiào shìsú xiānqiǎo kèzhuó” (rooted in classical scholarship; entering and exiting the styles of Hán [Yù] and Liǔ [Zōngyuán]; not imitating worldly delicate-and-cleverly-carved style). Lǚ Běnzhōng 呂本中 呂本中 and Chén Yǔyì 陳與義 陳與義 both said of his poetry: “yǔ bù zì rénjiān lái yě” (the language does not come from the human-realm).

Liú’s collection survives as Tiáoxī jí 苕溪集 KR4d0162 in 55 juǎn — actually titled Fēi yǒu zhāi lèigǎo 非有齋類稿 in 50 juǎn per Hán Yuánjí’s xíngzhuàng and Chén Zhènsūn’s Zhízhāi shūlù jiětí; the Tiáoxī jí title comes from a Zhū Yízūn 朱彝尊 family copy and represents a re-titling of unknown date.
