Liú Xiàosūn 劉孝孫
Liú Xiàosūn 劉孝孫 (d. 642; CBDB id 92625, fl. 617–641), early Táng literatus and calligrapher. He is recorded in the Jiù Táng shū · Wénxué zhuàn 舊唐書·文學傳 as active at the early Táng court, associated with the staff of Prince Qín (秦王府幕 — i.e., the entourage of Li Shìmín before his enthronement as Táng Tàizōng) alongside other court literati. He was known as a calligrapher and participated in literary discussions at the early court.
He is the attributed author of Shì shǐ 事始 (KR3k0074), a 3-juan classified reference tracing the first occurrences of cultural institutions, objects, and customs. The work was continued by 馮鑑 in the Five Dynasties period (Xù shì shǐ 續事始, KR3k0077).
Note: CBDB lists two other individuals named 劉孝孫 (ids 10653 with birth/death 0/0, and 449787 without dates); the identification of id 92625 (d. 642, fl. 617–641) as the attributed author of Shì shǐ follows the early-Táng date bracket consistent with the work’s content and traditional attributions.
