Republican-era physician, otherwise undocumented. Active fl. 1912 (preface dating); writes from his studio Yǎngshēng yuán 養生園 in a Húnán / Húběi locality (the same county as Chén Bǎo 陳寶 and Xiè Yìnán 謝邑南, who wrote co-prefaces). No CBDB record.

Liú’s preserved works:

  1. Zhìnüè jīyào 治瘧機要 (KR3eh049, 4 juǎn, 1912), a specialised treatise on nüè 瘧 (malaria-like fevers) arguing that nüè is fundamentally a yíngwèi 榮衛 disorder rather than a six-channel disease, in continuity with the late-Míng Jiènüè lùn shū 痎瘧論疏 of 盧之頤 Lú Zhīyí. Engages biomedical quinine therapy and finds it inadequate.
  2. Jìngbìng yǔ nǎomóyán quánshū 痙病與腦膜炎全書 (KR3eg044, “Complete Book on Convulsive Diseases and Meningitis”), a Sino-Western integrationist work that maps the indigenous jìngbìng 痙病 (convulsive-disease) category onto the Western diagnostic category of meningitis.

The two works together place Liú in the broader Republican-era project of zhōngxī huìtōng 中西匯通 (Sino-Western synthesis) — translating Chinese-medical disease categories into Western clinical-diagnostic vocabulary while maintaining Chinese-medical pharmacology as the principal therapeutic instrument.
