Early-Míng 明 Daoist scholar and compiler, author of the ten-juàn [[KR5c0100|Dàodé zhēn jīng jí yì 道德真經集義]] (DZ 712) — a collected-commentary compilation of the Dàodé jīng with preface dated 1387 and a secondary preface by the 43rd Celestial Master 張宇初 Zhāng Yǔchū dated 1393.

Activity period. Active during the Hóng wǔ 洪武 era (1368–1398) under Míng Tàizǔ 明太祖 (朱元璋). The 1387 preface-date is the only firm chronological anchor. No lifedates or biographical details are recorded beyond the compilation.

Work. His sole known work is the Dàodé zhēn jīng jí yì (DZ 712) — a collection of approximately sixteen commentaries on the Lǎozǐ. The compilation’s interpretive orientation endorses the zhì shēn zhì guó 治身治國 (“governing the body and governing the state”) reading of the Dàodé jīng — a dual framework that aligns Wēi Dàyǒu with:

  1. The TāngSòng imperial commentary tradition (Xuánzōng, Huīzōng, Míng Tàizǔ himself) that treats the Lǎozǐ as a political-philosophical text.
  2. The Southern-Sòng / Yuán nèi dān tradition (as represented by Hé Xīn shān 何心山 and Lǐ Dàochún) that treats the scripture as a text of self-cultivation.

The compilation’s zhì shēn zhì guó synthesis was evidently congenial to the early-Míng Zhèng yī Daoist establishment, hence Zhāng Yǔchū’s endorsement-preface of 1393.

Dating. Active 1387 (preface date). No lifedates or further biographical details are recorded. No CBDB record identified.
