Lì È 厲鶚
Zì Tàihóng 太鴻; hào Fánxiè 樊榭. Native of Qiántáng 錢塘 (modern Hángzhōu, Zhèjiāng). Jǔrén of Kāngxī gēngzǐ (1720). CBDB id 33481; lifedates 1692–1752.
One of the leading mid-Qiánlóng kǎozhèng scholars and a central member of the Hángzhōu Wǔlín literary circle. Repeatedly attempted but did not pass the metropolitan examination (jìnshì); spent his career as a private scholar in Hángzhōu, supported by the patronage of the great Yángzhōu salt merchants. A vigorous bibliophile and scholar of Sòng poetry.
Principal works: (1) the Sòng shī jì shì 宋詩紀事 (100 juǎn, 1746) — the canonical biographical anthology of Sòng poetry, the principal source for late-imperial knowledge of Sòng-era poets and their works; (2) the Liáo shǐ shíyí 遼史拾遺 (KR2a0034, 24 juǎn) — the principal Qing-era supplement to the Liáo shǐ; (3) the Dōngchéng zá jì 東城雜記 — a Hángzhōu local-history miscellany; (4) the Fánxiè shānfáng jí 樊榭山房集 — his collected poetry and prose. He was also one of the founders of the Zhèpài 浙派 of Qing cí poetry.
