Sīmǎ Rángjū 司馬穰苴, original family name Tián 田 (Tián Rángjū 田穰苴), was a Spring-and-Autumn-era (the catalog dates -722 to -481 indicating the Chūnqiū period) military commander of Qí 齊. Served Duke Jǐng 景公 of Qí (r. 547–490 BCE); raised in office to Dà sīmǎ 大司馬 (Grand Marshal) — hence the family-house byname Sīmǎ. Biography: Shǐjì j. 64 (Sīmǎ Rángjū lièzhuàn). Traditional author of the Sīmǎ fǎ 司馬法 (KR3b0005) — though the received text is most likely a Warring States compilation under his name, edited and contributed to during the King Wēi 威王 period of Qí (4th c. BCE) when the Qí court ordered Tián’s military principles compiled.
