Mid-Qing philologist and antiquarian, zì Shānfū 山夫, hào Biéshān 別山, of Shānyáng 山陽 (modern Huái’ān, Jiāngsū). Held the rank of lǐngòngshēng and served as instructor (xùndǎo) at Fèngyángxiàn. He was a serious epigraphist, especially on HànWèi seal-script and clerical-script materials, and a contributor to the Qing revival of jīnshíxué 金石學. His Biéyǎ KR1j0016 is the standard Qing dictionary of tōngjièzì 通假字 (loan-character pairs), arranged by rhyme, and was followed by his other major work, the epigraphic Jīnshí cún 金石存. CBDB lifedates 1698–1773 in agreement with the catalog meta and the standard biographical sources.
