Late-Yuán / early-Míng poet of Kūnshān 崑山 (in the Lóudōng 婁東 area, modern Tàicāng region). Style-name Jìngfū 敬夫; called Láihètíng zhǔrén 來鶴亭主人 after the pavilion he built when a second crane joined the one already kept in his garden. He was a member of the late-Yuán Kūnshān poetry circle with Guō Yì 郭翼 (KR4d0548), Lù Rén 陸仁, and Yuán Huá 袁華. He was a student of Zhèng Dōng 鄭東 (Kūnyáng) and an early correspondent of Yáng Wéizhēn 楊維楨 — the latter wrote his original 1347 preface for Láihètíng jí 來鶴亭集 (KR4d0578). Lǚ was caught up in the disorder of the early Hóngwǔ: in Hóngwǔ gēngxū 庚戌 (1370) he was banished south to Guǎngdōng, returning in xīnhài (1371). The reason for his exile is unrecorded. He lived to the late Hóngwǔ era — the latest internal cyclic year in the collection is guǐyǒu (Hóngwǔ 26 = 1393), implying that he died very late in the Hóngwǔ reign at considerable age. He never accepted Míng office. According to the Tiānshùn 3 (1459) postscript by Zhèng Wénkāng 鄭文康, Lǚ was repeatedly invited as xùndǎo but always declined. His other works (Jìbáixuān, Zhúzhōu, Guītián gǎo etc.) are referred to but no longer extant.
