Zhōu Yán 周巖 (1832 – early-20th c.), zì Bódù 伯度, hào Lùqǐ Shānrén 鹿起山人. Native of Shānyīn 山陰 (Shàoxīng, Zhèjiāng). Late-Qīng jīngfāng 經方 physician. He passed the jǔrén in his thirties and held minor county-level posts in Húběi before withdrawing to private practice in his late forties. His pharmacological orientation belonged to the Jiāngnán BěnjīngZhòngjǐng revival of the mid-19th century: he was a generation younger than Zōu Shù 鄒澍 and Yáng Shítài 楊時泰 and continued their critique of SòngYuánMíng theoretical accretions. His major work, Běncǎo sī biàn lù 本草思辨錄 (KR3ec053, 1904 Guāngxù imprint), is a jīngfāng-grounded substance-by-substance re-examination of the ShānghánJīnguì pharmacopoeia. He also wrote the Liù qì gǎn zhèng yāo yì 六氣感證要義 on epidemic pathology. Two CBDB entries exist under the name 周巖 but neither has confident dates; no CBDB id assigned.
