Zhōu Yìnghé 周應合 (1213–1280), original name Zhōu Míhòu 周彌垢, zì Chúnsǒu 淳叟, hào Xīyuán xiānshēng 溪園先生, native of Wǔníng 武寧 (modern Wǔníngxiàn 武寧縣 in Jiāngxī, then under Lóngxīngfǔ 隆興府). He attained jìnshì status in the Chúnyòu 淳祐 era (1241–1252) of Lǐzōng’s reign and rose through the Hànlín establishment to Shílùyuàn xiūzhuàn 實錄院修撰. He was demoted to tōngpàn of Ráozhōu 饒州 after submitting a memorial impeaching the powerful chief councillor Jiǎ Sìdào 賈似道. While serving as a gànbàn gōngshì (delegated officer) of the Jiāngnán Dōnglù pacification commission with the rank of Chéngzhí láng 承直郎, he was commissioned by Mǎ Guāngzǔ 馬光祖 to compile the Jǐngdìng Jiànkāng zhì 景定建康志 (KR2k0021) at the Zhōngshān gé 鍾山閣 office in 1260–61; the methodological postface (Jǐngdìng xiūzhì běnmò 景定修志本末) which he attached to the gazetteer is the earliest surviving example of explicit fánlì 凡例 (rules of compilation) for a Chinese local gazetteer. He had earlier compiled the Jiānglíng zhì 江陵志 (no longer extant), and the rubric scheme of that earlier work served as the basis for the structure of Jǐngdìng Jiànkāng zhì. He also tutored at the Míngdào shūyuàn 明道書院 in Jiànkāng. CBDB: 42787.
