Shàndào 善道 (Tang, fl. late 7th c.?)

A Tang Pure Land monk, co-compiler with 道鏡 Dàojìng of the Niànfó jìng 念佛鏡 KR6p0045 (T47N1966). Lifedates not preserved. The Taishō colophon assigns him as 共集 (“jointly compiled”). DILA Authority id A001298.

He is not the same person as 善導 Shàndǎo (613–681), the great Tang Pure Land patriarch — the names use different characters (道 vs. 道, but the first character differs: 善導 with 導 vs. 善道 with 道). The two are routinely confused in pre-modern catalogue traditions, including some Sòng-era references; the modern DILA Authority distinguishes them.

He is otherwise undocumented in the standard biographical literature.
