Miàoyuán 妙源

Late-Southern-Sòng Yángqí-branch Línjì Chán monk, dharma-student (cānxué 參學) of 智愚 Xūtáng Zhìyú (1185–1269). Exact lifedates not transmitted. Lead editor of the ten-juan Xūtáng héshàng yǔlù 虛堂和尚語錄 (KR6q0065), compiled together with a collective of twenty-five further Xūtáng disciples named in the headings of the Xuzangjing recension (X1380): Kěxuān 可宣, Wúyǐn 無隱, Fànyuè 梵閱, Déyì 德溢, Wéijùn 惟俊, Fǎyún 法雲, Jìngtán 淨覃, and so on. Mentioned in connection with the yǔlù at the opening of each juan as “cānxué Miàoyuán biān” 參學妙源編. No independent biographical record.

Not to be confused with A015350 寶葉妙源 Bǎoyè Miàoyuán / 寶業道源 Bǎoyè Dàoyuán, a different Xūtáng dharma-heir and abbot.
