Mèng Zuòlín 孟作霖 (zì Yǔsūn 雨蓀, studio-name Jìshìxuān 濟世軒), late-Qīng paediatrician. His preface to the recovered manuscript copy of Yòukē zhézhōng mìchuán zhēnběn 幼科折衷秘傳真本 (KR3ej034) is dated Guāngxù 18 rénchén 壬辰 = 1892 zhuàngyuè 壯月 (eighth lunar month). The preface explains that the original Yòukē zhézhōng of Qín Chāngyù 秦昌遇 was effectively destroyed in print after the Yuèfěi 粵匪 (Tàipíng) disturbances, and that Mèng’s family-transmission of paediatric medicine, lasting many years, led him to recopy a borrowed manuscript-witness for preservation. The preface includes a touching cautionary note to descendants — yí zūn zhī, zhòng zhī, jiǔ ér cáng zhī, qiè wù jiè yú wàirén 宜尊之、重之、久而藏之,切勿借於外人 (revere it, treasure it, keep it long, never lend it to outsiders).
