Mèngshì 孟氏 (“Mr. Mèng” — given name not preserved), conventionally placed in the Liáng 梁 dynasty (502–557), is the most obscure of the eleven traditional commentators on the Sūnzǐ bīngfǎ 孫子兵法. His annotations were transmitted as one of the strands gathered in the late Northern-Sòng 《十一家注孫子》 (Shíyī jiā zhù Sūnzǐ) edition compiled by Jí Tiānbǎo 吉天保 in the late 11th c., alongside those of Cáo Cāo 曹操, Lǐ Quán 李筌, Jiǎ Lín 賈林, Dù Mù 杜牧, Méi Yáochén 梅堯臣, Wáng Xī 王晳, Zhāng Yù 張預, et al. No personal name, native place, or office is preserved in any reliable source; the Liáng-dynasty attribution rests solely on the conventional ordering used in the Shíyī jiā compilation. CBDB has two entries for “孟氏” without dates (c_personid 93945 and 163674), neither confidently identifiable with the Sūnzǐ commentator. He is the attributed author of the commentary preserved in KR3b0022 Shíyī jiā zhù Sūnzǐ (Mèngshì zhù).
