Mèng Xiànzhōng 孟獻忠
A mid-Tang official-Buddhist devotee, lifedates not preserved; identified in his own colophons as 梓州司馬 (“Sīmǎ [Adjutant] of Zǐzhōu” — modern Sāntái 三台 county, Sìchuān). His dating is fixed by his own preface to the 《金剛般若經集驗記》 KR6r0174 Jīngāng bōrě jīng jíyàn jì, dated 大唐開元六年 = 718, and by an internal reference to his earlier post at Shēnzhōu 申州 in 長安三載 = 703. His career is therefore datable to the late 7th and early 8th century — the great age of Tang Diamond-Sūtra cultic devotion. The mid-Tang local-administrative position (sīmǎ of a regional zhōu) places him squarely within the Tang scholar-official lay-Buddhist class that produced much of the Tang miracle-tale anthological literature.
His sole surviving work is the 《金剛般若經集驗記》 Jīngāng bōrě jīng jíyàn jì (X1629, 3 juǎn), the earliest specialised Vajracchedikā-miracle anthology — a thematic predecessor of the much larger SòngYuánMíngQīng Jīngāngjīng miracle-anthological tradition.
