Sūn Mèngguān, Shǒushū 守叔, hào Xuěchuāng 雪窗, was a native of Cíxī 慈溪 in Qìngyuánfǔ 慶元府 (modern Níngbō 寧波, Zhèjiāng). Bǎoqìng 2 (1226) jìnshì; tutor in the Imperial University and the various princely schools, then Vice Director of the Ministry of Personnel under Lǐzōng (1224–1264). Made his name as an outspoken remonstrator against the favourites of Lǐzōng’s late reign and against the influence of Dīng Dàquán 丁大全 and Jiǎ Sìdào 賈似道. Recommended for qīnglì (incorruptible-official) status by the chief councillor Dǒng Huái 董槐; took external office at his own request as prefect of Quánzhōu 泉州, then Níngguó 寧國, then Jiànníngfǔ 建寧府, where he died of illness in 1257 (Bǎoyòu 5), aged 58. The standard biographical compendia and CBDB (id 21356) all give 1200–1257. His sole surviving work is the two-juan Xuěchuāng jí 雪窗集 KR4d0344, which preserves his court memorials and his gùshì (paired classical-citation-and-admonition) compositions, with a one-juan appendix containing the biography drafted by the early-Míng Yuán-loyalist scholar Wēi Sù 危素 (1303–1372).
