Sòng Xiáng 宋庠 (996–1066), originally named Sòng Jiāo 宋郊, zì Gōngxù 公序, was a native of Ānlù 安陸 (modern Húběi) who later relocated to Yōngqiū 雍邱 in Kāifēng 開封. He took first place at the jìnshì examination in Tiānshèng 2 (1024) — a liánzhōng sānyuán 連中三元, top in prefectural, metropolitan, and palace tests — entering office at the head of one of the most distinguished examination cohorts of the Northern Sòng. He rose through Hànlín Academy and Secretariat-Chancellery posts to Joint Manager of Affairs (tóng zhōngshū ménxià píngzhāngshì 同中書門下平章事) and Commissioner of Military Affairs (shūmìshǐ 樞密使), was enfeoffed Duke of Jǔ 莒國公, retired with the title of Minister of Works (sīkōng 司空), and was canonized Wénxiàn 文憲. The Sòngshǐ 宋史 carries his biography (juǎn 284). His younger brother Sòng Qí 宋祁 (998–1061) was the celebrated co-compiler of the Xīn Tángshū 新唐書. His scholarly output centered on the philological recovery of the Guóyǔ — his Guóyǔ bǔyīn KR2e0002 is the only Sòng phonological treatment of the work to survive — alongside the lost prose collection Yuánxiàn jí 元憲集 (recovered in part from the Yǒnglè dàdiǎn by the Qīng Sìkù compilers in 40 juǎn) and the Tōngpǔ cóngzhì 通譜叢志. (CBDB gives 997 for his birth year; the Sòngshǐ and Wikipedia give 996, followed here.)
