Jikkan 實觀 (Edoperiod Japanese Tendai monk, fl. late 17th c.)
A Japanese Tendai-school 天台 / 山家 monk active in the late seventeenth century, known principally as the editor and re-publisher of 知禮 Sìmíng Zhīlǐ’s Guānwúliángshòu fó jīng shū miàozōng chāo 觀無量壽佛經疏妙宗鈔 KR6p0007 in Jōkyō 貞享 4 (1687). His preface to that edition records that he undertook the re-cutting in order to restore the original 1013 text from the corrupted version produced by the Míng monk Bǎisōng / Zhēnjué 百松真覺, who had silently emended the text. Jikkan’s Jōkyō-4 edition divided the original five-juǎn commentary into chapter-and-verse subdivisions (fēnhuì 分會) for ease of student reference, and the resulting recension is the basis of the Xùzàngjīng and Taishō (X22n0407) text.
His lifedates are not preserved. He is identified in the colophon as shāmén 沙門 (“śramaṇa”) without monastic-lineage specification; his Tendai affiliation is inferred from the doctrinal commitments of the preface. The Japanese name “Jikkan” is the standard rendering; he should not be confused with the Tang Chinese commentator Shíguān 實觀 attested in earlier Lǎn-bō hé-shàng literature.
