Shěnxiáng 審祥 (Sinsang / Shinjō, d. 742)

Korean (New Silla 新羅) monk who studied Huáyán doctrine under 法藏 Fǎzàng in Tang Cháng’ān and subsequently moved to Nara Japan, where he became resident at Daian-ji 大安寺. In Tenpyō 12 (740) he is recorded as having delivered the first formal lectures on the [[KR6e0010|80-fascicle Huáyán jīng]] in Japan at Konshu-ji / Kinshōsen-ji 金鐘寺 (the precursor of Tōdai-ji 東大寺) at the invitation of Rōben 良辨. He is conventionally considered the founder of the Japanese Kegon 華嚴 school. Died 742.
