Fēng Yǎn 封演 (fl. 756–805; lifedates uncertain). Native place unclear, but of the Bóhǎi Tiáoxiàn 渤海蓚縣 Fēng-clan; the Táng shū Zǎixiàng shìxì biǎo does not list him, suggesting he was of the more distant branches. Tàixué student during the Tiānbǎo (742–756) period; jìnshì in the early Dàlì (766–779) reign; rose to Cháosàn dàfū, Jiǎnjiào shàngshū lìbù lángzhōng concurrent with Yùshǐ zhōngchéng; ended his career as prefect (cìshǐ) of Xíngzhōu 邢州 under De-zōng (785–805). Compiler of the Fēngshì wén jiàn jì 封氏聞見記 (KR3j0083), one of the most informationally substantial and methodologically rigorous of all Táng bǐjì.
