Wèi Liáo 尉繚 (Warring States period), traditional author of the WèiLiáozǐ 尉繚子 (KR3b0006) — the Warring States military-administrative classic. Two distinct historical figures named Wèi Liáo are traditionally associated with the work: (i) a Wèi Liáo who served King Huì 惠王 of Liáng 梁 (Wèi 魏, r. 369–319 BCE); (ii) a Wèi Liáo who served Qín Shǐ Huángdì (King Zhèng of Qín, r. 246–210 BCE) as Grand Commandant. The Yínquèshān bamboo-strip find (1972) confirms the work’s composition by ca. 200 BCE. Modern scholarship is divided on which historical Wèi Liáo (or both, in different layers) authored the received text. Biography: Shǐjì j. 6 (Qín Shǐhuáng běnjì) for the second figure.
