Cuī Bào 崔豹 (Western Jìn, fl. c. 290–306; zì Zhèng Xióng 正熊 by his own self-naming as preserved in the Gǔjīn zhù superscription, Zhèng Néng 正能 according to Liú Xiàobiāo 劉孝標’s Shìshuō xīnyǔ zhù 世說新語注). The Sòng-era postface to Gǔjīn zhù by Lǐ Tāo 李燾 (1115–1184) identifies him, on the basis of family-line investigation, as a descendant of the Eastern-Hàn Cuī clan of Ānpíng 安平 — most plausibly of the line of Cuī Yuàn 崔瑗 (78–143) and Cuī Shí 崔寔 (c. 103–170). Native place therefore most plausibly Ānpíng (Héběi). Career attested only by his office of Tàifù chéng 太傅丞 (Assistant to the Grand Tutor) under Jìn Huìdì 晉惠帝 (r. 290–306), recorded in the superscription of Gǔjīn zhù itself (“晉太傅丞崔豹字正熊”). The Jìn shū 晉書 contains no biography. Author of KR3j0025 Gǔjīn zhù 古今注, the principal early míngwù 名物 / antiquarian compendium of the Western Jìn, transmitted continuously since the Sòng (and entangled in the bibliographical record with the HòuTáng Zhōnghuá gǔjīn zhù 中華古今注 of Mǎ Gǎo 馬縞, on which see KR3j0025). No CBDB entry.
