Chángjǐn 常謹
A Northern-Sòng Buddhist monk-historiographer; identified in the colophon of his sole transmitted work as 傳教沙門常謹 (“Cháng-jǐn, Dharma-transmitting śramaṇa”). Lifedates not preserved; the work — the 《地藏菩薩像靈驗記》 KR6r0182 Dì-zàng pú-sà xiàng líng-yàn jì (X1638, 1 juǎn) — is dated by the author’s own colophon to 大宋端拱己丑歲 = Duān-gǒng 2 = 989 CE, fixing his floruit in the early Sòng (Sòng Tài-zōng’s reign). He is therefore an early-Sòng monk active in the immediate post-Wǔ-dài transitional period.
The compilation methodology described in his preface — “Cháng-jǐn, the Dharma-transmitting śramaṇa, has zhí-bǐ ér jí 直筆而集 [recorded with a straight brush and compiled]” — places him in the Tang-Sòng gǎn-tōng-lù tradition descending from Dào-xuān, with the same documentary-veracitative posture. He is otherwise undocumented in standard Buddhological reference works.
