Mid-Míng Hànlín scholar from Pújiāng 蒲圻 in Húguǎng 湖廣 (modern Húběi), courtesy name Míngōng 鳴公. CBDB id 122619 attests his name and dynasty without precise lifedates; standard prosopographical sources place his floruit in the 1520s–1540s. He took the jìnshì in Zhèngdé 16 (1521) and was selected as shùjíshì 庶吉士; he rose through Hànlín biānxiū 翰林編修 to Shìjiǎng xuéshì 侍講學士. He was long in the Hànlín establishment and was a leading court literatus of the Jiājìng reign. His major works include the Chǔ jì 楚紀, a regional history of his native Húguǎng, and the Diàngé cílín jì 殿閣詞林記 (KR2g0036) — a 22-juàn prosopographical compilation of the Míng Hànlín and Imperial Academy officials, incorporating substantial portions of Huáng Zuǒ’s earlier Hànlín jì. He is also remembered as one of the more substantial Húguǎng calligraphers of his generation.
