Mid- to late-Qīng physician of Shàoxìng city (mod. Zhèjiāng), resident at the Xǐmǎchí 洗馬池 (“Horse-washing Pond”) neighbourhood. Active clinically from c. 1840 to c. 1880. A literatus who turned to medicine as a young man; widely-read in the medical literature; reached the height of his clinical reputation in the Tóngzhì era. His son Shān xiānshēng 山先生 continued the family medical practice; his grandson JīngQǐ 睛豈 preserved and brought to publication his manuscript clinical handbook and case-records as KR3er104 Yībìng jiǎnyào 醫病簡要 (printed 1913 with a preface by Bāo Yuèhú 包越瑚).
