Mid-Míng grand councilor and Cabinet Senior Grand Secretary; native of Yíxīng 宜興 in Chángzhōu prefecture (modern Jiāngsū). Zì Shíyòng 時用; posthumous name Wénjìng 文靖. Took the jìnshì in Jǐngtài 5 (1454), placing second; rose through the Hanlin Academy to become Wényuān gé dàxuéshì under Hóngzhì, ultimately Senior Grand Secretary 1490–1498. Served as chief editor of the Yīngzōng shílù and as the original chief director of the Hóngzhì-period Míng Huìdiǎn 明會典 (KR2m0010); the work was largely complete by his retirement in 1498 but published only in 1509 after his death, and his name was not retained in the publication credits—an editorial decision the Sìkù editors note as puzzling. The catalog meta gives his dates as 1428–1499; CBDB gives 1427–1499, followed here.
