Císhòu Huáishēn 慈受懷深 (1077–1132)
Northern-Sòng / early Southern-Sòng Yúnmén-school Chán master, abbot at Císhòu 慈受 and other Zhèjiāng monasteries. Author of the Císhòu chánshī guǎnglù 慈受懷深禪師廣錄 and a substantial corpus of doctrinal verse. The line shìjiān duō shājié, hú-bīng dào 世間多殺劫，胡兵到 (“there is much killing in the world, and so the kalpa-of-the-blade arrives”) attributed to him is cited at the head of 周夢顏 Zhōu Mèngyán’s Jièshā sìshíbā wèn 戒殺四十八問 (KR6k0262, X1138) as the doctrinal frame for the work’s anti-killing apologetic.
