Huìxǐng 慧省 (fl. mid–late 14th c.), direct disciple (túdì bǐqiū 徒弟比丘) of Wéi’ān Dérán 唯菴德然 (d. 1388), the Línjì Yángqí Chán master of the Sōngjiāng region, himself a dharma-heir of Qiānyán Yuáncháng 千巖元長. No independent biography, birth or death dates, native place, or monastic offices are recorded. The only firm information — that he biāncì 編次 (“compiled and arranged”) his master’s recorded sayings — is preserved in the title-page credit of each juan of the Sōngyǐn Wéi’ān Rán héshàng yǔlù: “túdì bǐqiū Huìxǐng biāncì 徒弟比丘 慧省 編次”. DILA A037261 classifies him simply as a Míng-dynasty disciple of Dérán.
The compilation was framed at its close by the postface of Qīngyuǎn Huáiwèi 清遠懷渭 (Zhúān 竹菴, 1318–1376), then resident of Nánpíng 南屏, dated Hóngwǔ 4 = 1371 spring, 3rd month; and at its opening by a preface of the hànlín xuéshì Sòng Lián 宋濂 (1310–1381), dated Hóngwǔ 9 bǐngchén = 1376. Huìxǐng’s compilation must therefore have been complete by spring 1371. Not to be confused with the Táng-dynasty Huìxǐng Píshù héshàng 椑樹和尚 (DILA A020062).
