Jiāochénrú 憍陳如

Skt. Ājñāta-Kauṇḍinya. The first of the pañcavargīya (五比丘 wǔ bǐqiū) — the five ascetics who became the Buddha’s first disciples at the Deer Park (Mṛga-dāya / Sārnāth) when the Buddha set in motion the Wheel of the Dharma (Dharmacakra-pravartana). His attainment of srotaāpatti (stream-entry) on hearing the first sermon is recorded in all schools of the early Buddhist tradition.
