Chéng Róngjìng 成蓉鏡
Style name Fúqīng 芙卿. Native of Bǎoyìng 寶應 (Yángzhōu prefecture, Jiāngsū). Born Jiāqìng 21 (1816), died Guāngxù 9 (1883). A noted classicist of the Yángzhōu / Chángzhōu evidential-learning lineage, working in the late Qiánjiā tradition that ran via Liú Wéngí 劉文淇 and Liú Bǎonán 劉寶楠 of nearby Bǎoyìng. CBDB id 128850 (dynasty Qing, no birth/death years entered).
His scholarly range covered the Shàngshū and Shījīng (commentaries and prefatory studies), historical phonology (Bǎoyìng Liúshì jí xí Chéngshì jiāfǎ 寶應劉氏及襲成氏家法), classical-period chronology, and ancient-calendar reconstruction. The present catalog preserves his Hàn Tàichū lì kǎo 漢太初曆考 (KR3fb002), in which he argues — against the standard view that the Shǐjì “Lìshù jiǎzǐ piān” 厤術甲子篇 is a Chǔ Shàosūn 褚少孫 supplement based on the lost Yīn lì 殷曆 — that the chapter in fact embodies the Tàichū lì / Sāntǒng lì itself, and that the discrepancies it presents are textual corruptions rather than evidence of a different system. His other extant philological writings are collected in Sījì jí 思齋集; he was a frequent correspondent of the Yángzhōu jīnwén circle (Liǔ Xìngēng 柳興恩, Liú Yǔsōng 劉毓崧).
