Wén-guǐ 文軌 (fl. mid-7th c.), Tang-period Chinese Buddhist monk, principal author of one of the two Tang-period sub-commentaries on the KR6m0015 Dàshèng guǎng-bǎi lùn shì-lùn 大乘廣百論釋論 (T1571). His original ten-fascicle commentary survives in Chinese only in the single fascicle preserved as KR6m0016 Guǎng-bǎi lùn shū juǎn dì-yī 廣百論疏卷第一 (T2800), recovered from the Dūnhuáng manuscript find. Wén-guǐ is otherwise attested in the Tang Buddhist record as a Yīnmíng 因明 (Buddhist logic) specialist whose principal work, the Yīnmíng-rù-zhèng-lǐ-lùn shū 因明入正理論疏 (“Sub-commentary on the Nyāyapraveśa”), is one of the foundational Tang Chinese-Buddhist sources on Indic logic; it survives in Dūnhuáng manuscripts and as a partial Japanese transmission. He was associated with the Cí’ēn-sì 慈恩寺 circle around Xuánzàng and Kuiji 窺基 in Cháng’ān.
His T2800 fragment opens with a literary preface comparing the difficulty of the Catuḥśataka to “the secret of the meaning-cave, the cleft of the lofty cliff”, then announces his composition: “Thus I grasped the brush, set down the bristles, and composed a sub-commentary, summarising the text and clarifying the meaning, structured in ten fascicles.” 遂握管□毫述為論疏約文申義十卷勒成. Only the first of these ten fascicles is preserved.
Works in the Kanripo corpus: KR6m0016 Guǎngbǎi lùn shū juǎn dìyī 廣百論疏卷第一 (T2800); KR6v0006 Tiān qǐngwèn jīng shū 天請問經疏 (W01n0005, the complete Beijing-Library Dūnhuáng witness recovered in 1995). The Dōngyù chuándēng mùlù 東域傳燈目錄 also credits him with a Bùkōng juànsuǒ jīng shū 不空羂索經疏, no longer extant.
