Dharma-heir of 師範 Wújùn Shīfàn; one of the principal generations-later disciples of Wújùn (alongside 師範’s better-known Chinese heirs). In 1260, at the invitation of the Kamakura shogunal regent Hōjō Tokiyori 北條時賴, crossed to Japan and succeeded his Chinese dharma-elder 道隆 Lánxī Dàolóng as second abbot of Kenchō-ji 建長寺 in Kamakura. He went on to serve at Tōfuku-ji, Shōfuku-ji, and other early Gozan seats before returning to Sòng China after Tokiyori’s death (1263), spending his last decade at Dàohǔshān 導虎山. His Japanese followers established the Wù-ān-ha 兀菴派 / Gottan-ha, an independent early-Gozan lineage alongside Lánxī’s Jiàn-cháng-ha and Wújùn’s Shōichi-ha.
